Welcome to the website of the Intensive Programme (IP) entitled “Governance and Security in Europe and the Mediterranean” (GOSEM) which will take place at the premises of the Department of Political Science at the University of Crete from the 1st until the 14th of September 2013. This site will provide the information necessary for you to make the most of this summer academy that takes place in the picturesque city of Rethymnon.
GOSEM primarily aims to provide advanced graduate and post-graduate students with a holistic knowledge on the current patterns of governance and security in Europe and the Mediterranean with the use of co-ordinated and interactive teaching methods and through their active participation, team-work and presentations. GOSEM aims at building not only a solid European dimension on how to approach, teach and research both the traditional issues and the new patterns of governance and security in Europe and the Mediterranean, but also a network of academics and partner institutes that could further enhance their cooperation in teaching and researching on issues of vast significance for the future of Europe and beyond.
Exploring the ongoing developments and the increasing interrelationship between governance and security in Europe and the Mediterranean, the Department of Political Science at the University of Crete in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, the University of Malta, the University of Catania, the University of Athens, the Athens University of Business and Economics, and the Aegean are coming together to encourage the sharing of knowledge and expertise in the study of governance and security in Europe and the Mediterranean.
Bringing together experts, researchers, and advanced students of European and International Relations, Political Science and Economics, we hope to encourage an original exchange of views on experiences, accomplishments, problems and future prospects in the study of Governance and Security in these two interrelated regions.
I am certain that GOSEM will prove a memorable experience for those attending, hoping that we will be able to provide you with new knowledge, new friends, new experiences and expecting that we will gain fruitful feedback from you.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Rethymnon.
